In March 1945, the Provincial Committee of the Liberation Front (PO OF) moved from Košuta / Koschuta to the AGITPROP headquarters and radio centre on mountain Macna / Matzen. Radio reports were broadcast daily from there, and "Koroška v borbi", "Slovenski vestnik", "Einheit" and other newspapers were edited there. The couriers took the reports and manuscripts to the provincial technical centre, where they were illustrated and reproduced. Within a day or two, they were delivering backpacks full of this propaganda material.
At the end of March 1945, the entire Provincial Committee of the Liberation Front OF then moved for a while to Zavrh pri Šmarjeti v Rožu / Hintergupf bei St. Margarethen im Rosental. Activists from all parts of Carinthia gathered there. The village resembled a military camp. They came in uniform. The Provincial Committee had called a broader conference to review the work and at the same time to prepare a march to the valleys, to the liberated towns. It was therefore about the final formation of the OF committees, about the control of the political situation in the communes, about the role of the committees after liberation. The conference, which took place from 10 to 12 April 1945, was attended by 40 delegates. There were also delegates from Podklošter / Arnoldstein and from the territory north of the Drava / Drau, as well as a delegate from the Austrian Freedom Front ÖFF.
One day, a patrol of seven comrades fell into an ambush at Zavrh / Hintergupf and four fighters from the protection of the Provincial Committee lost their lives. The eldest son of the Lesjak-family from Robeže / Robesch, Jože Kanzian, was also killed at Zavrh / Hintergupf, and is buried in Apače / Abtei, but has a special memorial at Zavrh / Hintergupf with the inscription:
Jožef Kanzian, locally known as Lesjak's son in Robeže / Robesch,
lost his young life in this place, taken by a bullet fired by a servant of Hitler.
