Šentlenart pri sedmih studencih / St. Leonhard bei Siebenbrunn

In the cemetery next to St Lenart's Church, there is a partisan monument: a tall stone square with an added plaque bearing the inscription:

Franc Herle, Anton Malec, Valentin Suhar, Alojzij Vidmar,
4 unknown

Engineer Franc Herle, a native of Solčava (Savinjska dolina), was killed in August 1944 on Rikarska planina; Anton Malec from Kranj was killed in September 1944 near Šentlenart pri sedmih studencih / St. Leonhard bei Siebenbrunn; Alojzij Vidmar from Kamnik was killed in December 1944 at Trebinja / Treffen; Valentin Suhar, a native of Podgorje v Rožu / Maria Elend im Rosental, was killed on 6 December 1944 near Blače / Vorderberg. The names of the four combatants are unknown, but it is known that two of them were from Styria and fell in Grpiče / Korpitsch in September 1944, while the other two came to Carinthia as partisans of the Gorenjska region; they fell in July 1943 and 1944; the first one, who was originally from Škofja Loka, fell at Petelinjek, while the second one was killed in the slopes of the Karavanke mountains.
When the fallen were buried in a common grave in this cemetery, the parish priest Janez Starc spoke at the open grave (22 May 1949) as follows:

"At a time when criminal fascism wanted to take everything from us, even our mother tongue, our youth took up arms and started gathering in the forests. In deep respect for their Slovene nation, they went out to fight for justice and freedom. We respect them, because it is only to them that we have to thank that Nazism was not able to carry out its terrible intentions. They gave their lives so that we could remain on our own soil. We have not forgotten them and we will not forget them."

Pastor Janez Starc, born 2 November 1885, died 2 March 1953, has an architecturally beautifully designed tombstone on the north inner side of the church, with a text that worthily presents this conscious priest of Koroška:

From Mokrije / Mökriach to Šentlenart / St. Leonhard, from the cradle to the grave, I have carried the cross of a spiritual messenger, from Rude / Ruden through Plajberk / Bleiberg, Borovlje / Ferlach, Hodiše / Keutschach, through the exile for your nation. - Lord, who of the nations
guide the destiny of nations, lead my nation to the right path of Christianity.

Location:
From the road leading from Rož / Rosental to Podklošter / Arnoldstein lies the somewhat isolated village of Šentlenart pri sedmih studencih / St. Leonhard bei Siebenbrunn. The village itself is situated on the northern slopes of the karavank mountain range, about two kilometres south of the main valley road.
