Loče / Latschach

There is no specific partisan gravestone in this cemetery, but the grave of the Pöck family is considered our monument. The names of three members of the Pöck family, locally known as the Mikuls from nearby Dobje / Aichwald, are carved into a black marble slab using the slovenian language:

Pöck Alojzija, born 31 October 1882, murdered 5 March 1944 in Lublin
Pöck Hanej, born 6 April 1913, murdered 26.4.1944 in Dachau
Pöck Franjo, born 19 September 1906, murdered on 25.4.1945 in Dobje / Aichwald

Franjo Pöck was already an active slovenian kultural worker in his home village before the war. When he was killed as a partisan fighting the Germans, the Nazi newspapers in Carinthia triumphantly wrote: "Das Ende des Banditen Pöck!" (The end of the bandit Pöck).
Three other local people from the area around Loče / Latschach lost their lives because of their national awareness and participation in the national liberation struggle:

Jožef Blenkuš, born 6 September 1914 in Podgorje / Maria Elend,
murdered 22 November 1940 in Berlin;
Jožef Mačič, born 30 August 1904 in Rute / Greuth,

murdered 27 April 1944 in Gradec / Graz;
Jožef Noč, born 18 April 1926 in Rute / Greuth,

murdered 3 July 1944 in Gradec/ Graz.

Also buried in Loče / Latschach is the oldest Slovenian teacher in Carinthia, Franc Aichholzer, born 12 February 1884 in Spodnji Dob ob Baškem jezeru / Unteraichwald am Faaker See, died 5 October 1976. Aichholzer was one of the four teachers who remained in Carinthia after the plebiscite. Because of his work during the plebiscite in favour of the Slovenes, he was left without a job for many years or transferred to a completely German place. After the Second World War, he united Slovenian teachers and for many years published the school newspaper "Mladi rod".
The same cemetery in Loče / Latschach is also the site of a reminder, which was artistically designed by the academic painter Valentin Oman and completed in 2010.
