Glinje / Glainach

On 10 May 1945 - it was already the end of the war on the open battlefields - a group of fourteen partisans was staying here. They were surprised by the White Guards, who were retreating across the Ljubelj / Loibl pass to escape the Yugoslav army at that very time. The partisans were confused by the Slovene language and did not immediately take up arms. The Belogardists, however, immediately fired blindly into the group of partisans and shot them to the last. According to the locals, one of the partisans and one of the Belogardists knew each other because they were from the same village. The White Guard is said to have exclaimed: "I know you, but don't hold it against me, I have to shoot you!".
The grave of the unfortunate fighters, who were buried in a corner of the village cemetery in Glinje / Glainach, is now marked by a large, artistically crafted stone monument with a modest carved inscription that fourteen unidentified partisans are sleeping there.

Location:
The village of Glinje / Glainach lies set back from the road from Borovlje / Ferlach to Šmarjeta v Rožuj / St. Margarethen im Rosental on the right bank of the Drava / Drau.
